App of the Month

Each month we feature an app that we hope will help Christians in their spiritual lives. You can find apps from previous months here.

October 2016

Have you ever thought about memorising verses from the Bible? Billy Graham once said “I am convinced that one of the greatest things we can do is to memorize Scripture.” Dallas Willard goes even further saying that “Bible memorization is absolutely fundamental to spiritual formation. If I had to choose between all the disciplines of the spiritual life, I would choose Bible memorization, because it is a fundamental way of filling our minds with what it needs.” Chuck Swindoll has said “I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. . . . No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified.”But where do we start? Fighter Verses is an excellent app that helps you to memorise scripture. It aims to get you learning one verse per week every week of the year. It has 520 verses preloaded and so will keep you going for 10 years! There is also a section to help children learn Bible verses. What makes the app really great is that it gives you 6 different types of quizzes to help you learn and you can set it to give you reminders daily or weekly. The verses are provided in FIVE Bible translations:

1) ESV – English Standard Version
2) NIV – New International Version 2011
3) NASB – New American Standard Bible
4) HCSB – Holman Christian Standard Bible
5) KJV – King James Version

With the Fighter Verses app scripture memory has never been easier. With these tools even people who have previously failed to memorize Bible verses can be successful.

July 2016JellyTelly

JellyTelly was started by VeggieTales® and What’s in the Bible? creator Phil Vischer.  It is an online TV streaming service that sets our to provide high quality Christian TV shows and films for kids.  Because it is made available online it can be instantly streamed on any device – desktop, tablet or phone.  It provides access to 80 shows and hundreds of hours of entertainment.
Let Phil Vischer explain the reason for JellyTelly:
Kids are consuming media in vastly different ways than they did 5 or 10 years ago. They aren’t anxiously awaiting the next delivery of a Netflix DVD – they are walking around with smartphones and tablets, never without screens to entertain them. As accessibility has increased, so has consumption. Our kids are consuming more media than ever before – on average more than 5 hours a day!
JellyTelly is a partner for parents in our media-drenched culture.  It provides safe screen time for kids, but more than that – it allows kids to enter a media world where God is real and His Word is true. It can be a powerful tool for parents and kids to spend time together watching and learning, and then talking about Jesus and their faith.  Screens are everywhere these days.  Let JellyTelly redeem them for your family!
JellyTelly provides shows where God is real and His Word is true.”
In addition every week, you’ll receive a family devotional PDF and other great resources to help your kids walk with God. JellyTelly is more than on-screen entertainment, but a partner for you as you lead your family in faith.
