Passage: Hebrews 9:1-28

Rosemary started by showing an obsolete mobile phone followed by a newer one.
The Hebrew Christians had to realise that the old covenant was obsolete, superseded by the new one. Plan of the Tabernacle. What was the key teaching of the old covenant?
1.God’s desire was to have a relationship with his people.
2.The utter holiness and separateness of God.
3.The seriousness of sin. The wages of sin is death.
The new covenant is so much better.
1.Under the old covenant one person once a year could go into God's presence. We now have unlimited access.
2.Limited cleansing from outward defilement, no provision for deliberate sin. Jesus paid in full, bringing forgiveness to us.
3.Limited effectiveness – daily sacrifices. Jesus made a once for all sacrifice.
Why was Jesus’ sacrifice so much better?

1. Jesus' sacrifice was voluntary
2.He was unblemished.
3.It was motivated by love
4.He has entered the most holy place in heaven.
He is the mediator between God and man.
