Timothy needed encouragement because of Paul's imprisonment. He was beset by people who had left the faith were now peddling false teaching. He had received sound teaching. Like Paul and Timothy, we share the issues of false teaching and some of our brothers and sisters share the context of persecution. The authority of Scripture is an issue for us today.
