Peter lays down a clear charge to elders/shepherds. In using the shepherd metaphor he follows the example of Jesus the Good Shepherd. The work of the elder/shepherd should be done for the right reason, with the right motives and in the right manner. It should also be done with the awareness that one day the Chief Shepherd will bestow a crown.
