Jesus makes his 'formal royal entrance' into Jerusalem. Despite the exuberance of the crowd, 'he came to his own and his own received him not'. The money changers symbolise the extent to which the nation as a whole is out of step with God's purposes and so fail to accept that Jesus is indeed Immanuel - God with us.
