Service Type:

The concluding chapter of St John's Gospel (21) sees Peter's encounter with Jesus by the Sea of Galilee. The huge catch of fish is an object lesson in the need to follow the lead Jesus gives instead of relying on one's own resources. Would-be self-reliance had been Peter's undoing while Jesus stood trial, and in the conversation that follows Jesus does more than forgive Peter: he entrusts him with the enormous responsibility of pastoral care. What we know of Peter's career as outlined in the Acts of the Apostles shows that he is indeed a changed man who accepts the role Jesus has for him.
