The Messiah had been promised since Adam and Eve had first sinned. Simeon had been told that he would live long enough to see the Messiah. When he held the child in his arms he rejoiced and was able to die with confidence because he had seen God's salvation. There is a safe place in this world - in the arms of Jesus.
