John's letter was written to counter Gnosticism. What John wrote then still applies today - we still need reassurance.
1. The astonishing love of God.
2. The radical change in our lives - God loves us as we are, but does not want us to remain as we are.
3. Our love for our Christian brothers and sisters - showing itself in self-sacrificial giving.
4. The implacable hatred of the world.
